Cosmeco is located in Ostiglia, a few kilometers from the cities of Mantua and Verona, in the heart of the Po Valley, furrowed by the great river Po and its tributaries. A territory of ancient agricultural tradition, this rich expanse has witnessed over the centuries great works of regulation and shaping of the numerous river courses, irrigating with a dense network of canals all the vast cultivated fields that have always characterized this landscape.
It is in this setting that Costantino Rossi, with already 15 years of experience on his shoulders in the world of agricultural mechanics as a design technician, founded Cosmeco in 1980, initially a simple metal carpentry business that later turned out to be a dynamic and modern artisan reality.
In 1981, the business made its first contribution to the mechanization of surrounding agriculture, designing and building its first models of rotary trenchers, which were received with wide approval and appreciation by customers, whose demands became more and more numerous and particular, leading the company to expand its range of offerings to 50 different models of agricultural soil preparation machines. From here it was a short step to trespassing beyond the Italian borders and entering the international scene, placing the company among the top three trenching firms in the world.
In 1984, Cosmeco acquired the agricultural production division of Cosmoter, a company then specialized in the construction of trenchers and industrial excavators in general. In the 1990s, another cornerstone of the Mantua area, horticulture, appeared among Cosmeco's projects and prototypes, introducing new machines and soil preparation techniques.
The first recognition in this sector came in 1992, at the EIMA exhibition, with the award for technical innovation for the bed former combined with mulch layer for melon and watermelon cultivation. In 1993, at FIERAGRICOLA in Verona, Cosmeco received another award for technical innovation for the large adjustable bed former for asparagus and strawberries, which is still available in 5 different versions.
In 1998, Claudia, Costantino's daughter, began her journey within the company. Starting in the production department, over the following years she became increasingly involved in the company's activities, getting to know all its departments: machine assembly, purchasing, sales and administrative management.
Cosmeco's path continued into the 2000s, years in which the company continued to be an interpreter of the evolution of agricultural practice, offering new proposals and customised solutions for the specific needs of local products. Thus the adjustable cover tunnel for small watermelon and melon tunnels was born, followed by the efficient vertical irrigation and drainage trenchers, whose success has long since equalled that of the traditional trenches.
But it was in 2004 that Cosmeco achieved its crowning achievement with a completely exclusive in-house project: BIG STORM, the world's largest double wheel ditcher tested in extreme conditions.
Now in its second generation, Cosmeco will be run by Claudia Rossi from 2021. However, Claudia had already been in charge of the administration and business management for several years. This transition has ensured the continuity of a tradition rooted in the past, but with a constant eye on the future.
The change of generations and Claudia's management are aimed at a strong modernisation and a precise extension of the range of machines offered. This is the impulse given by an increasingly important Research & Development for a modern and cutting-edge company. For example, in the proposal of technologically advanced machines ready for BIO and increasingly sustainable agriculture.
The new course is also marked by the restyling and renewal of the production range, as well as a more modern method of managing the company: collaboration, teamwork and fruitful interaction are encouraged to get the best out of employees at all levels. Participation in national and international trade fairs and events allows the company to maintain direct contact with its customers, both professional and private, and to keep abreast of developments in the agricultural sector. Through Claudia, the needs and suggestions of the customers are passed on to the company, leading to changes in machine management, service and development.
Not forgetting an increasingly important aspect of effective communication that contributes to improving the work of the industry, an ever sharper focus on the use of digital and social media.
The result of this long but still unfolding history is a complete range of equipment built with artisan passion, but with modern technologies and exclusively with certified Italian materials, with extraordinary durability. Today it is not uncommon to find Cosmeco equipment in service for more than 30 years.
